Covid-19 Memorial Garden design competition

Westerleigh Memorial Design Competition Poster

The Westerleigh Group is the UK's largest independent owner of crematoria and cemeteries, and we are creating new COVID-19 memorial gardens at our sites all over the country.

Each garden will be a permanent, tranquil place for people to visit and remember loved ones who died during the pandemic and pay tribute to those who sacrificed so much to help others who were sick, isolated or vulnerable.

We always said we wanted local people to be able to contribute in some way to these memorials that we are creating in our local community, and we have decided to launch a special competition.

The gardens will have rainbow-coloured floral beds and black stone monuments in the middle, which will have the following words carved onto it: "This memorial has been placed to remember and recognise the lives and efforts of all affected by the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020."

Aspiring artists, school children, retired people and creative folk of all ages are being invited to design an image for the centre-piece obelisks of new COVID-19 memorial gardens which are being created all over the country.

Designs should be no bigger than A4 in size and must be submitted by Saturday, October 31. One design will be chosen for the monuments in each of our seven regions. The design itself can be full-colour but needs to be simple enough so that it can be carved onto stone.

Entries can be emailed to: designcomp@westerleighgroup.co.uk or posted to: Design Competition, Westerleigh Group, Chapel View, Westerleigh Road, Westerleigh, Bristol BS37 8QP. Entrants should include their name, address and a telephone number.
