VE Day 80th Anniversary
At 3pm on the 8th May 1945 Winston Churchill famously delivered his speech marking the end of WW2 "We may allow ourselves a brief period of rejoicing; but let us not forget for a moment the toil and efforts that lie ahead. We must now devote all our strength and resources to the completion of our task, both at home and abroad. Advance, Britannia! Long live the cause of freedom! God save the King!"
To mark this auspicious occasion the Topper Girls have devoted their commemorative craftwork to another icon, the "Forces Sweetheart", Dame Vera Lynn.
The Topper Girls said "The phrase blue birds over the white cliffs of Dover evokes themes of hope, peace and resilience. Vera Lynn became a symbol of national spirit and the promise of a better future".
To all those who serve or have served, our respect and grateful thanks on this the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.
