Who We Are and What We Do

Great Glen Parish Council came into existence in 1895. The Parish Office is at Glendale House, 1 Church Road, Great Glen, Leicester, where all meetings are held.

The Parish Council has a wide range of powers that it can exercise by law, but not all are appropriate to a parish of this size, our main responsibilities include the maintenance of the recreation ground, most of the village open spaces, sports facilities and the youth centre. The Parish Council can do any of these things however money to do any of these activities has to be raised through the 'precept' (taxation). The Parish Council has also created a Community Emergency Response Plan to interact with current procedures produced by the emergency services, local authority and other agencies involved in responding to an incident in our parish. The plan provides a guide as to how and where the local community may support the Emergency Services.

Meetings of the Full Parish Council are held every month, on the second Tuesday, at the Council Offices and members of the public are always welcome to attend. The Annual Parish Meeting and the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council are held on the second Tuesday in May.
